This is one of a number of owls I have painted based on photos taken at Banham Zoo in Norfolk. This is the important one though because it was the first.
I painted this on my course at the Folk House but was pretty much left alone to complete it. I love the light fluffy feathers that look as soft as fur. I also like this owl because the eyes aren’t the classic round as saucers, flecks of gold radiating out etc but just deep black and purple.
I was inspired to paint this by my son wo asked if he could have a picture for his bedroom wall. I originally thought that pastels would work better but I just couldn’t get the definition that I wanted. When I finally tried the acrylics it just all came together.
This is a popular image and is available as a card.
