I was born in Southampton, one of four girls, and for the early part of my life was determined to be an artist. I took every chance to draw and paint but then I went to school and slowly the desire to draw faded. I did fairly well academically and at that time it meant being pushed towards other subjects.
On leaving school I trained as an accountant which pushed any last remaining artistic thought from my brain for nearly thirty years. The deprivation of culture finally took its toll and a fantastic Christmas present from my husband, of an easel and an art course, lit the spark again. The course taught by Will Stevens was a great refresher and took me through lots of different media and techniques. I sketch and draw with charcoal, inks and pencils but all of my public work is executed in acrylics on either canvas or paper.
I now live in Bristol, where there is a thriving art community ranging from the RWA, the folk house and the local post code art groups like BS9 artists. I share my life but not my paints with my son and husband. My son wants to be an artist too but at the moment his pictures all focus on Pokemon.
I am just starting out as an artist. I have painted for 9 months now and produced a dozen pieces of work that have made the grade. I still work full time as an accountant so it remains to be seen whether I can keep up with this rate.
Most of my work is inspired by Bristol or by my holidays in Norfolk. I occasionally find random photos of places I have never been, or even of people I have never met, so they put in an appearance too.
